Momma's Tree

Ok, I feel the need to post pics of my Mom's tree, just cuz it'll make her feel good. She likes that sort of thing. And I must admit, I like some of her ornaments, the train and the village (with working miniature street lights!) So, I'm posting that stuff too!

I am in a "Postal" mood today.
So, here are some pics of my office at work...
I decorated the lobby with stuff from home.

OH.... Christmas Tree, Oh, Christmas Tree

Well, we did manage to get the tree up. I can't decide which photo I like better... the one lit, or unlit... They are okay, I guess. I am a little disappointed with the overall effect of it this year because most of my ornaments and decorations are still in the attic, shoved behind and underneath all the stuff we put up there before the storm last year. Maybe in the spring, before it gets too hot, I'll be able to get up there and sort everything out. (Probably finishing just in time to be ready for storm season next year! LOL)
I want to add some of the close ups I took of some of my favorite ornamets that are on the tree... maybe I'll get to that later today.

The blizzard that blew in at the end of last week didn't give me much to take pictures of, except drying John's boots by the fire one evening. We got plenty of "almost snow", but none of the white stuff. Maybe, before spring, we might get lucky, but somehow I doubt it.

Almost Cold Enough To Snow... but not quite (sniffle...)

It's beginning to feel alot like Christmas...
Almost cold enough to snow...
(sorry, you caught me singing again...)

It's Friday, end of the work week for me...
Nice at the office today, really quiet.
I heard on the news this morning that it was gonna snow in Houston, and that, in all of recorded time in America, it's never snowed before December 20th. This is the first time since readin' an' writin' came to the "new world"... thought that was pretty interesting.

Here, in Louisiana, no such luck, just plenty of freezing rain... and slush.

I just wanted to post a little something to remember this day.
Not much else. Happy Winter!

1000lb Gator!

Ok, say what you will, but I had to post this. A 1000 pound alligator was shot last week near a soccer field regularly used by the kids of that area... Not to mention, an even larger female was spotted crossing Field #4 but managed to escape! YIKES!

I have nightmares about that kind of stuff!

Thanksgiving is about 4 weeks away! I am already getting excited about putting everything in the smoker. I think I want to try something new this year too, I just don't know what it will be yet.

The cartoon here, is just the way to start off the month...

I've already started pulling out my Christmas music and playing it at work (with earphones, don't worry, I am not going to kill the season for everbody else before it officially gets here. ha ha)

But mostly, I just wanted to tell everyone Happy Harvest and Love to all!

Today has turned into a fabulous day!

One of the best for me in a very long time.

I have found my neices!

When my sister died two years ago, we kind of lost touch with them.

They live in Texas with their father.

Well, I recently sent a package to them and their other mom called me!

I am so excited!!!!!

She was very kind and understands completely how much I want to keep in touch with them.

I feel as if a huge weight and load of guilt has been lifted from me.

I haven't wanted to interfere with their lives; I didn't want to bring more pain to them since they lost their mom... so, I've tried to keep a little distance from them.

So, with baby steps, I hope to re-intertwine our lives.

For me, this is a kind of a "holiday" day!

Halloween is coming!

Halloween is coming!

Halloween is Saturday, and I just can't wait. My Godchild is going on 2, and this will be her first real taste of "Trick or Treat"... I can't wait to see her taking it all in. I think I am more excited for her than she will be when it actually commences!

I'm posting a pic of her from last Halloween and next week I'll update with a 2009.

She was a ladybug last year... this year she is a ladybug again... just a different kind, I think.

My "Holiday" Tree

For me, there is a difference between a "Holiday" tree and a Christmas Tree. My "Holiday" tree, I keep on display all year long and decorate accordingly. My Christmas tree is only up from Thanksgiving to January 2nd. I am very perturbed at the idea of them being the same thing... because for me, they are not. MY Christmas tree is a symbol and is filled with symbolism by the ornaments adorning it. For some people, Christmas is just a holiday... but for me, it is a frame of mind... one I try to keep all year long; ... ... ....meaning: Give more, take less. Others first, yourself last. Share, don't hoard. Welocome, don't shun. Help, don't hurt.

Well, the point of this post was to share with you my "Holiday" tree. It's in my foyer, right by the front door. I decorate it all year long. At the moment it is decorated for the football season, and I have paid tribute to LSU with it. Go Tigers.

What do you think?

Happy Autumn To All!

I just love this time of year! The air is crisp and clean... the weather is cool and the holidays are just coming into focus.

I can't wait to start decorating.

I've just gotten everything for Halloween down from the attic and have begun spreading it out on the patio to dust off, clean up or throw away if it's beyond help.

There is just something about all the memories that are wrapped so tenderly in old newspaper, packing peanuts or original styrofoam molds that give me a boost this time of year. Every box I open is filled with yesteryear. It is uplifting somehow.

Maybe pics of the decorations in my next post.
